The King Of Pop

Michael Jackson is regarded as the king of pop around the world. He has sold roughly 750 million albums worldwide and is one of the best selling artists of all time. Michael Jackson first gained popularity in 1964 in a group composed of his other siblings, The Jackson 5. The Jackson 5 were actually one of the first groups of black performers to obtain a crossover following. Michael Jackson eventually began his solo career in 1971. By the 1980's Michael had taken the world by storm. In 1982, Michael Jackson released his hit album "Thriller" which remains to be the best-selling of all time. The album itself amassed seven top 10 hits.  Thriller remained on the music charts for 80 weeks and held the number 1 spot for 37 weeks. Michael released multiple albums after that such as "Bad" and "Dangerous" which also hold spots as some of the best selling albums in history.

Around the mid-1980's, Jackson's skin noticeably began to become paler. Eventually, the artist went from having a brown skin tone to that of a white one. Jackson publically announced that he suffers from vitiligo, which is a disease that causes loss of skin color. There's a lot of speculation of what exactly was going on with him. Rumors began to spread that he was bleaching his skin and was "ashamed of being black". Jackson would go on to deny these rumors and claimed it was something he simply couldn't help.

Unfortunately, Michael Jackson ran into some legal troubles in his life. In 1993, Jackson was accused of sexually abusing a 13-year old boy. More allegations were brought up after this incident. In 2003 Jackson was once again accused and charged with seven counts of child sexual abuse. When the trial ended in 2005, Jackson was found to be not guilty of all charges.

On June 25, 2009 Michael Jackson had died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication. It was that Jackson had used these drugs to assist him with sleeping. Michael Jacksons personal doctor Conrad Murphy was the one administering the drugs for him and was ultimately found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Murphy was sentenced to four years in jail, of which he served two. Michael Jackson's death took the world by shock. There was an outpouring of support after his untimely death. Jackson struggled with many mental health issues throughout his life. His childhood was unfortunately filled with abuse and trauma. Michael Jackson continues to remain as of the greatest artists of all time. He will continue to be The King Of Pop for years to come.

  3. Though Michael Jackson can still be found as a controversial figure in discussions online, I find it difficult to deny is amazing influence to music. I like a lot of his music, from the time when he was with Jackson 5 to one of my favorite songs where he did a song with Janet Jackson called Scream. I don't know many people that have actually heard the song Scream, but to this day it is still one of my favorites.
